I am a member of the Society of the Sacred Heart-United States-Canada Province, a Religious of the Sacred Heart. As an RSCJ, I have most recently served with the Society of the Sacred Heart, United States-Canada Province as the Director of Planning and its Liaison for the Sacred Heart Commission on Goals (SHCOG). Prior to this service, I served on the Provincial Team of the Society of the Sacred Heart for three years. Specializing in “Human and Organizational Systems,” I have been primarily involved with the merger of the Canadian Province, the Governance and Accountability in Sacred Heart Schools Task Force, the Finance Committee and the Organizing Committee in the multiple strategic planning and restructuring efforts that are underway in the Province. While much of my ministry requires travel out of the state, I continue to be engaged as an education and organization consultant to nonprofit organizations that support the educational mission of the Society of the Sacred Heart in Louisiana.
A native of New Orleans, I attended the Academy of the Sacred Heart, “the Rosary” from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. A firm believer in lifelong learning, my academic degrees include a Masters in Educational Administration and Supervision from Loyola University in New Orleans, and Masters in Educational Administration and Applied Spirituality from the University of San Francisco. My Doctorate degree (Ph.D.) in Human and Organizational Systems was received from Fielding Graduate University in Santa Barbara, California.
My passion for education emerged at an early age and led to service in two Sacred Heart schools: Schools of the Sacred Heart in Grand Coteau and Schools of the Sacred Heart in San Francisco where my responsibilities included the design and development of service learning programs as an integrated component of school mission and curriculum, design of related curriculum materials and supervision of all on-site, out of school related activities, teaching and Campus Ministry. Eventually this service led to service on the Board of Trustees at Schools of the Sacred Heart in Grand Coteau. Currently, I am serving on the Board of Trustees at Stone Ridge Country Day School of the Sacred Heart in Washington, D.C. and the Academy of the Sacred Heart in New Orleans.
As a member of the Grand Coteau-Baton Rouge area of the Religious of the Sacred Heart, my religious community is located in Baton Rouge, LA. I am one of ten siblings in a large New Orleans family with all five of my female siblings attending the Rosary. For relaxation, I love being out of doors either gardening or bike riding. I enjoy cooking, of course, and am a lifelong swimmer.
Dearest Melanie,
While praying this morning, I was drawn back to our journey to entering religious life and remembered our time at St Angela Merici. How time flies!! I have such a love for the RSCJ communities. I just wanted to send you my love and pray that God continue to surround you with His love and blessings. Peace and Infinite Joy dwell in your heart,
Helen
